Brrr! Who else has been rugging up to withstand the cold? And did anyone get 20 minutes of sunshine to their face, arms and hands? Sunshine is used by the body to make vitamin D, and in winter, most of us do not get enough. We can get some vitamin D through diet – vegetarian sources are fortified margerine, milk or soymilk, along with eggs – however we get most of our vitamin D from the sun.
Vitamin D is known for its role in calcium metabolism. It helps us absorb calcium from our foods, and stops us excreting so much calcium.... |

Sometimes I think the cosmos really wants us to eat chocolate and chips. And fast food. It seems to be everywhere, in bright packets, and just the smell can make us hungry. It's far too easy to secumb to that temptation, even though we know "junk" food is not worth eating. Of course, it's the food companies, not the cosmos, that try to tempt us into snacking; but their siren song can still be hard to resist, and can sabotage good intentions, (and waistlines!)
